## 9 cm (3.5 in) beech ball: single or set of four

The craft table has paint, glue and nothing round enough to paint on. Polystyrene dents the moment you grip it, and beads are too small to be worth the brush.

A 9 cm beech ball is the size in between: solid beech, sanded smooth and left bare, so you can paint it, oil it, wax it or leave it as it is. A croquet ball measures about 9 cm across, so the 9 cm ball is close to that size. It weighs 0.27 kg. Buy one, or take the set of four.

It is the size that fits the hand and the project.

## About the 9 cm beech ball

The ball is 9 cm across: 3.5 inches, 90 millimetres, 28.3 cm round the middle, and about 0.38 litres of beech. The set holds four of them, and the table shows both prices.

A single ball travels in a box about 10.2 cm each way inside.

It works as a paperweight, a craft blank, a game piece or a handful for a bowl. It is undrilled, so any hole is yours to place. Beech has a fine, even grain that takes paint cleanly and shows its growth rings under oil.

Bigger balls, in pine, African walnut and oak, start at the 10 cm ball and are collected on the craft balls page.

Paint it for a craft, oil it to show the rings, or wax it and leave it pale. Take the set if you want a matched group for a bowl, a game or a run of crafts, and the single ball if you only need the one.
