what to know

Choosing legs and feet

Three kinds of foot live here. A ball foot is a single sphere with a dowel turned from the same piece. A ball-stack leg is several balls stacked into one column. A bun foot is a flattened ball, wide at the base and narrower at the top, often stacked.

The table above lets you buy ball feet and bun feet straight away. Ball-stack legs come in many sizes and heights, so they have a page of their own.

Decide the height first, then add the thickness of any fixing plate: tall stacks look light and short buns look grounded. Four feet share the weight of a piece, so choose a base wide enough for the load.

Pine suits painted pieces, and oak and walnut suit oiled ones, where the foot is offered in them. For a size or a fixing that is not listed, ask for a bespoke quote and say what the piece is.

Questions

Where can I buy wooden ball legs for furniture?

Here. The Bordesley ball foot, bun-stack feet and ball-stack legs all have their own page with every option and price.

What is the difference between ball feet, ball-stack legs and bun feet?

A ball foot is a single sphere with a dowel. A ball-stack leg is several balls stacked into a column, usually for tables and benches. Bun feet are flattened balls, wide at the base and narrower at the top, often stacked, and suit sofas, chests and cabinets.

Can I use bun feet for a sofa or chest of drawers?

Yes. Bun feet are a common choice for sofas, chests of drawers, footstools and cabinets. Pick a base wide enough for the weight of the piece.

How do the feet fix on?

The Bordesley foot has a dowel turned into the ball: bore a hole, add glue and push it in. Bun-stack feet come with a metal dowel or a bored hole, as you choose.

What woods are the feet and legs made in?

The Bordesley foot comes in oak, African walnut or pine. Bun-stack feet are solid hardwood, and ball-stack legs come in solid hardwood or softwood. None is veneered.

Do you sell feet in trade quantities?

Yes. The Bordesley foot is sold as a set of four or a trade box of twenty. For larger or repeat quantities, ask for a trade quote.

Bespoke and trade

Need a size, wood or shape that is not listed? A ball or sphere from 10 to 45 cm, or a dome from 2 to 45 cm, can be made to order in oak, walnut or pine.

Draw your own size in the size and price tool and see the price straight away, or ask for a bespoke or trade quote. Repeat orders and trade quantities are quoted on request.
